MOBILE, Ala. (June 9, 2019) - The Los Angeles Angels announced Sunday that right-handed pitcher Matt Ball has been promoted from the Double-A Mobile BayBears to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Ball, 24, posted a 1-3 record with a 3.57 ERA in eight starts with Mobile to begin this season. He struck out 45 batters in 35 1/3 innings pitched while issuing just 13 walks. Ball made four starts with the BayBears to finish the 2018 season, going 1-3 with a 5.79 ERA.
The San Diego native was originally selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 11th round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of Bonita Vista High School. Ball was traded to the Texas Rangers on May 12, 2016, in exchange for right-handed pitcher Anthony Ranaudo . The Angels acquired Ball at the end of the 2017 season in the minor-league portion of the Rule 5 Draft.
Ball has a career 15-26 record with a 5.17 ERA and has struck out 331 batters in 348 1/3 innings pitched. This is the first time he has been promoted to the Triple-A level.
