BILOXI, Miss. (June 28, 2018) - The Los Angeles Angels announced Thursday that right-handed pitcher Matt Custred has been promoted from the Mobile BayBears to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Custred, 24, had a 3-3 record with a 2.18 ERA in 19 relief appearances and one start with Mobile. He was a perfect 4-for-4 in save situations and held opposing hitters to a paltry .153 batting average. Custred joined the BayBears on April 19, after making four appearances with Class A Advanced Inland Empire to begin the season. He was involved in a combined no-hitter on April 28 at Montgomery and was also named a Southern League Mid-Season All-Star.
This is Custred's first year in the Angels organization. He was signed as a minor-league free agent on January 13, following three seasons in the Braves farm system. Custred was originally selected by Atlanta in the 31st round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of Texas Tech University.
In 107 career Minor League games, Custred has a 10-9 record and is 14-for-15 in save situations with a 2.22 ERA. This is the first time he has been promoted to Triple-A.
Additionally, infielder Zach Houchins and left-handed pitcher Conor Lillis-White have also been promoted to Salt Lake. Outfielder Bo Way has been activated off of the 7-day disabled list in a corresponding move.
The BayBears begin a six-game road series against the Biloxi Shuckers Thursday at 6:35 p.m. CDT.
