Moises Gomez joins Kernels from Elizabethton

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that RHP Moises Gomez has joined the Kernels roster from Elizabethton and LHP Bryan Sammons has been placed on the 7-day DL with right ankle sprain. Brian Maloney, Twins Senior Manager of Minor League Operations, announced the move.
Gomez was assigned to Elizabethton on May 13th and has made eight relief appearances this season for the Kernels, posting an 0-0 record, 3.03 ERA and one save. In 14.1 IP, he allowed 12 hits and five runs with six walks and 12 strikeouts. He was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent on April 9, 2014.
Sammons has made eight starts for the Kernels this season, posting a 1-3 record and 2.70 ERA. In 40 IP, he allowed 33 hits and 15 runs (12 earned) with 12 walks and 35 strikeouts. He was selected by the Twins in the 8th round of the 2017 First Year Player Draft out of Western Carolina.

Gomez is active and available for today's 5:00 PM DH vs Clinton. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster remains at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with four players currently on the DL, one player on the suspended list and one player on the military leave list.
The Kernels are in the midst of a nine-game, seven-day homestand that continues tonight with a DH against the Clinton LumberKings at 5:05 PM with the gates opening at 4:00 PM. The current homestand continues through Thursday, May 31st.
