SALEM, Virginia (July 29, 2019) - The Carolina League has announced the Players of the Week for July 22-28th. Pedro Castellanos' torrent at the plate has earned the infielder this week's selection.

Castellanos has ripped open the second half of the season, recording hits in 29 of 36 games including a current 13-game hit streak and 12 multi-hit games. The streak is the second-longest for Salem this season behind Jarren Duran's string of 16 in June. Last week, the Venezuelan native batted .407 with a 1.263 OPS. The Sox infielder went 11-for-27 with nine RBI, eight runs, three home runs in two games and a triple.

Baseball America has also recognized Pedro Castellanos this week among their minor league-wide top performers. The 21-year-old sits among several prospect watch lists including Baseball America and MLB Pipeline.

The selection is the fourth of the season for the Salem Red Sox and the first for a Sox infielder. Jarren Duran earned the honor in May while Marcus Wilson and Enmanuel DeJesus were recognized in June.

The Salem Red Sox are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and call Haley Toyota Field in Salem, Virginia home.
