Ryan Mason and Patrick McGuff join Kernels from Extended Spring Training

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that RHP Ryan Mason and RHP Patrick McGuff have joined the Kernels from Extended Spring Training and RHP Logan Lombana has been assigned to Extended Spring Training. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.
The Twins selected Mason in the 13th round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of UC Berkeley. He appeared in 11 games for Elizabethton in 2016 (nine starts) posting a 3-2 record and 5.33 ERA. In 49 IP, he allowed 58 hits and 31 runs (29 earned) with eight walks and 32 strikeouts.
The Twins selected McGuff in the 36th round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of Moorehead State University. He split time last season between the GCL Twins and Elizabethton, posting a combined 2-0 record, 2.27 ERA and 11 saves in 22 relief appearances. In 31.2 IP, he allowed 26 hits and nine runs (eight earned) with 10 walks and 42 strikeouts. He also appeared in one playoff game for the Kernels last year, allowing three hits over an inning pitched.
Lombana has made 10 relief appearances for the Kernels this season, posting an 0-2 record and 4.50 ERA. In 16 IP, he allowed 16 hits and eight runs (all earned) with nine walks and 17 strikeouts.

With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players, with four players currently on the DL.
The Kernels begin a four-game road trip tonight at 6:30 PM against the Kane County Cougars. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, May 30th to host the Quad Cities River Bandits at 6:35 PM.
