Shane Carrier rejoins Kernels from Elizabethton

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that OF Shane Carrier rejoins the Kernels from Elizabethton (APPY) and OF Aaron Whitefield has been placed on the 7-day DL with right shoulder bursitis. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.
Carrier played in 30 games for the Kernels, batting .215 (23-107) with a HR and 10 RBI before being assigned to Extended Spring Training on May 24th. In 32 games for Elizabethton, he is batting .348 (48-138) with 5 HR and 32 RBI. He was selected by the Twins in the 8th round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of Fullerton College.
Whitefield was a member of the Kernels 2017 Opening Day Roster and is batting .271 with 10 HR and 42 RBI in 95 games. He was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent on May 19, 2015.
Carrier is active and available for tonight's 6:35 PM at Wisconsin. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players, with six players currently on the DL and one player currently on the military leave list.

The Kernels being a four-game road trip in Appleton, WI against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, the Midwest League affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Thursday, August 10th to host Quad Cities at 6:35 PM.
