Shane Kennedy joins Kernels from GCL Twins

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that OF Shane Kennedy will join the Kernels from the GCL Twins and OF Christian Cavaness has been placed on the 7-day DL with a blood clot in his right shoulder. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.
Kennedy was originally signed by the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent in 2015 out of Clemson University. He played with the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League in 2016 and was signed by the Twins on October 25, 2016 and assigned to Fort Myers to start the 2017 season. In 47 games between Fort Myers and the GCL Twins, he is batting .209 (25-153) with 2 HR, 17 RBI and six doubles.
Cavaness has played in 89 games for the Kernels this season, batting .240 with 12 doubles, eight triples, six HR and 38 RBI. He was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent on July 28, 2015 out of Lindenwood University.
Kennedy will join the Kernels in Kane County and is active and available for tonight's 6:30 PM game against the Cougars. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players, with seven players currently on the DL and one player currently on the military leave list.

The Kernels begin a seven-game road trip tonight at 6:30 PM at Kane County. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, August 30th vs. Burlington that continues through Friday, September 1st.
