MARIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs are proud to announce that Tennessee Smokies infielder Trent Giambrone has been named Player of the Week and Mississippi Braves starter Bryse Wilson has been named Pitcher of the Week. Both awards recognize these players' performances for games during the week of July 2-8.

Giambrone, 24, appeared in seven games this week for Tennessee and led the league with 21 total bases, 11 RBIs, and a .808 slugging percentage. The Metairie, Louisiana product tied for the league lead with three home runs and four stolen bases, while also finishing among the league leaders in extra-base hits (6, 2nd), doubles (3, T-2nd), and OPS (1.242, 2nd).

On July 5 against Jackson, Giambrone matched the Southern League record by collecting nine RBIs in a single game. On July 7 against the Generals, he delivered the game winning hit in 1-0 Smokies victory.

Selected in the 25th round of the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft out of Delta State University, Giambrone has appeared in 79 games for Tennessee this season and ranks among the Southern League leaders in home runs (14, T-1st), stolen bases (21, T-1st), extra-base hits (32, T-4th), and slugging percentage (.487, 5th).
Wilson, 20, earns Pitcher of the Week honors after posting a pair of scoreless starts for Mississippi. Overall, the Durham, NC native spun 13.1 shutout innings, allowing just nine total hits and one walk while recording 16 strikeouts. Wilson posted a 0.75 WHIP and held opponents to a .196 average (9-for-46) this past week.

A fourth round selection by the Atlanta Braves in the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft out of Orange High School in Hillsborough, NC, Wilson began this season with a dominant run through the Florida State League; compiling a 2-0 record alongside a miniscule 0.34 ERA through five starts. Since making his Southern League debut on May 8, the Braves no. 12 prospect is 2-5 with a 4.81 ERA.
