Tyler Watson joins Kernels from Hagerstown

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that LHP Tyler Watson has been acquired from the Nationals as part of the Brandon Kintzler trade and assigned to Cedar Rapids and LHP Domenick Carlini IV has been placed on the 7-day DL, retroactive to July 30th, with shoulder inflammation. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.
Watson was originally selected by the Nationals in the 34th round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of Perry HS in Gilbert, AZ. This season with Hagerstown (SAL) he has a 6-4 record and 4.35 ERA in 18 appearances (17 starts). In 93 IP, he allowed 92 hits and 50 runs (45 earned) with 24 walks and 98 strikeouts.
Carlini has appeared in 17 games (16 starts) for the Kernels this season, posting a 3-5 record and 5.81 ERA. In 83.1 IP, he allowed 96 hits and 56 runs (48 earned) with 29 walks and 66 strikeouts. He was selected by the Twins in the 21st round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of Southeastern Louisiana.

Watson active and available for tonight's 6:35 PM home game against the Clinton LumberKings. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players, with five players currently on the DL and one player currently on the military leave list.
The Kernels continue a seven-game home stand tonight against the Clinton LumberKings with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 PM. The current home stand continues through Friday, August 4th.
