Espinal Earns BC® Relief Pitcher Award

MARIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs are proud to announce that Montgomery Biscuits RHP Yoel Espinal has been named the BC^® Relief Pitcher of the Month for June.
Espinal, 25, earns BC^® Relief Pitcher of the Month honors after recording eight scoreless and hitless outings, including 9.2 consecutive no-hit innings from June 3-17 and 3.2 straight no-hit frames from June 22-28.

Overall, the Santiago Rodriguez, Dominican Republic native went 0-1 with a 1.98 ERA (3 ER/13.2 IP) through nine June games, striking out 16 batters while allowing just three walks. His 0.44 WHIP and .070 opponent's batting average (3-for-43) were among the lowest in the Southern League this past month.
Currently in his second season with Montgomery, Espinal leads all active Biscuits pitchers this year with a 0.55 WHIP and a .104 opponent's batting average. He has a 2.28 ERA (6 ER/23.2 IP) through 16 Southern League contests and has not surrendered a hit in nine of his last 10 appearances.
Originally signed by the Detroit Tigers organization as a non-drafted free agent in 2011, Espinal was claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay from the New York Yankees organization in December 2015.
