Zach Houchins promoted to Triple-A Salt Lake

MOBILE, Ala. (September 1, 2017) - Infielder Zach Houchins was promoted from the Mobile BayBears to Triple-A Salt Lake moments prior to Thursday's game. Houchins went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored in his Triple-A debut against Tacoma.
Houchins, 24, was a member of the BayBears Opening Day roster and slashed .251/.306/.416 with a team-high 14 home runs and 77 RBI in 125 games. He was recently named to the Southern League Post-Season All-Star team as the Best Utility Man, starting games at first base, third base, and shortstop. He also led the team with 34 multi-hit games and 22 multi-RBI games. Houchins was named Southern League Player of the Week on June 12 after slashing .346/.414/.769 with a walk-off home run and 12 RBI from June 5-11.
The Wilson, N.C., native was selected by the Angels in the 13th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of East Carolina University. Houchins was named a MiLB.com Angels Organization All-Star in 2016 after leading the farm system in home runs (18) and RBI (84) in 134 games with Class A Advanced Inland Empire.
Additionally, the Angels announced Friday that catcher Francisco Arcia and Greg Mahle have been promoted to Salt Lake. Arcia (13 games) and Mahle (16 relief appearances, one start) spent time with the Bees earlier this season.
In a trio of corresponding moves, catcher Michael Barash and outfielder Derek Jenkins join the BayBears from Inland Empire, and right-handed pitcher Jackson Zarubin was received from Class A Burlington.
The BayBears continue a five-game home series against the Biloxi Shuckers Friday at 7:05 p.m. CT.
