Davenport, Iowa – The River Bandits had their Midwest League best nine-game win streak snapped on Sunday, as they fell to the Peoria Chiefs 4-2 at Modern Woodmen Park.

Despite holding the Chiefs without a hit with runners in scoring positions (0-for-3), Quad Cities pitchers surrendered a pair of homers which would prove the difference in the game.

After Brett Squires gave the Bandits a 1-0 lead with a first-inning sacrifice-fly, miscommunication amongst Quad Cities’ infield led to a two-out infield hit for Won-Bin Cho in the top of the third, which extended the inning for Zach Levenson. The left fielder took advantage with a two-run home run off Bandits’ starter Shane Panzini.

Quad Cities didn’t wait long to respond against Wilfredo Pereira and tied the game 2-2 on Jared Dickey’s RBI-triple in the fourth, but it would be the final tally for the River Bandits’ bats, who would be held to just three baserunners by the Chiefs bullpen for the remainder of the game.

After a scoreless fifth and sixth innings, Peoria broke the tie in the seventh on a second two-run home run, the first blast of the season for Brody Moore who one scraped over the left field wall off Cooper McKeehan.

Nathanael Herredia (1-0) earned the win out of the bullpen for the Chiefs, tossing 3.2 innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts, while McKeehan (0-2) was saddled with the loss, allowing the go-ahead knock his lone frame.

Joseph King (3) earned his third save in as many opportunities, allowing just one hit over 2.0 innings.

Despite Sunday’s loss, the River Bandits (11-3) remain atop the Midwest League after taking five of six from Peoria throughout the series.

After a day off Monday, Quad Cities hits the road for a two-week trip and opens the stretch against the South Bend Cubs next Tuesday at Four Winds Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.
