Davenport, Iowa – The Quad Cities River Bandits suffered their third shutout loss of the season on Friday night, as they fell to the Cedar Rapids Kernels 1-0 at Modern Woodmen Park.

Quad Cities loaded the bases in both the eighth and ninth innings, but failed to break into the run column and left 12 runners on base, while striking out 13 times.

Although in a losing effort, River Bandits starter Chandler Champlain (2-3) recorded his third quality start of the season, his second-straight, allowing one run over 6.0 innings with six strikeouts. His lone run, a third-inning solo home run from Ernie Yake, would prove to be the difference.

Jaylen Nowlin (1-3) earned the win for Cedar Rapids, tossing a season-high 5.0 scoreless innings after starter Marco Raya threw 3.0 scoreless, one-hit frames prior, while John Stankiewicz earned his first save of the year for the Kernels and stranded the tying and winning runs on base in the bottom of the ninth.

Brandon Johnson and Wander Arias also tossed scoreless outings out of the bullpen, with the Bandits’ right-handers striking out six in 3.0 innings.

Quad Cities will look to even the seven-game series on Saturday night, as Mason Barnett (1-0, 2.49) will get the ball for the Bandits against Cedar Rapids’ Kyle Jones (1-2, 3.70). First pitch is set for 6:30pm.
