Davenport, Iowa – Chandler Champlain posted his fifth quality start of the season on Friday to lead Quad Cities to a 3-1 victory over the Beloit Sky Carp at Modern Woodmen Park for the club’s tenth consecutive win.

Entering the game with the Midwest League’s top earned run average, Champlain allowed just one run across his 6.0-inning start, surrendering a tally on Dalvy Rosario’s sacrifice fly in the second. However, Beloit gave the run right back in the third inning, when Jack Pineda scored on a Yiddi Cappe throwing error to tie the game 1-1.

While Sky Carp starter Cade Gibson surrendered just two runs across 6.0 innings in his first-career High-A start, Quad Cities jumped in front 2-1 against the southpaw in the fifth, as Jack Alexander plated Herard Gonzalez’s leadoff double with a sacrifice fly.

In the sixth, Gavin Cross tagged Gibson with his final run of the game, launching a solo home run to right for a 3-1 QC lead and his league-leading eighth of the season.

After Champlain stranded the tying runs on base with his seventh strikeout in the Beloit half of the sixth, Brandon Johnson threw a pair of scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth, before Wander Arias recorded his third save of the season, also stranding the tying runs aboard in the bottom of the ninth.

Champlain (4-3) recorded his fourth victory of the year on the mound for the River Bandits, while Cade Gibson (0-1) took the loss despite a quality start and two strikeouts of his own.

Quad Cities will look to extend its win streak to 11 on Saturday, as Tyson Guerrero (0-2, 5.34) will get the start for the River Bandits against Beloit’s Alex Williams (1-0, 3.65). First pitch is set for 6:30pm at Modern Woodmen Park.
