Davenport, Iowa – The Quad Cities River Bandits saw their four-game win streak come to an end on Friday night, as they were shutout by the Cedar Rapids Kernels 5-0 at Modern Woodmen Park.

While Rylan Kaufman held the Kernels to just two base runners in the first three innings, the Bandits’ bats stranded six against Cedar Rapids’ starter David Festa, before the visitors broke through first in the top of the fourth with an RBI double off the bat of Kyler Fedko and then a Seth Gray RBI single for a 2-0 lead.

Kaufman again struggled in the fifth, eventually giving up a sacrifice-fly to Jake Rucker, with Quad Cities stranding their tenth man of the game at the end of the frame against Tyler Palm and Hunter McMahon, who combined for 5.0 scoreless innings and five strikeouts in relief.

Over the final four innings, Quad Cities mustered just one walk and no hits on offense, despite Parker Harm and Delvin Capellon striking out seven Kernels over 3.0 shutout innings out of the bullpen themselves.

Mikey Perez made it a 5-0 game in the top of the ninth with a two-run single against Charlie Neuweiler.

With 3.1 near-perfect innings out of the bullpen, McMahon (2-0) earned the win for Cedar Rapids, while Kaufman (1-6) took the loss, allowing three runs in 5.0 innings on five hits, two walks, and five strikeouts.

Quad Cities will look to win the series against the Kernels tomorrow night at Modern Woodmen Park, as Beck Way (1-1, 6.75) gets the start against the Kernels’ Luis Rijo (0-1, 11.81). First pitch at Modern Woodmen Park is scheduled for 6:30pm.
