Davenport, Iowa – The Quad Cities River Bandits were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Wednesday, as they fell to the Peoria Chiefs 3-2 at Modern Woodmen Park.

Peoria spoiled the High-A debut of Quad Cities’ right-hander Shane Panzini, who allowed three runs over his 4.0-frame night, including a solo shot off the bat of Thomas Francisco which gave the Chiefs a 3-0 lead in the fourth.

After being held off the scoreboard by Peoria’s starter and Davenport Central High School alum, Ian Bedell—who tossed 4.0-shuout innings—Dustin Dickerson cut the Bandits’ deficit to one off Edgar Manzo with a two-run single in the fifth.

However, with the tying and go-ahead runs on base, newly entered Joseph King got River Town to bounce into an inning-ending double play to keep Peoria up 3-2.

While Parker Harm (2.0 IP), Chase Wallace (2.0 IP), and Cooper McKeehan (1.0 IP) would combine for 5.0-scoreless innings out of the Bandits’ bullpen, King would hold Quad Cities to just one base runner over the final three innings of the game and struck out the side in the ninth.

The season-high 4.0-inning, four-strikeout performance earned King (5-2) his fifth win of the season for Peoria, while Panzini (0-1) got tagged with the loss, allowing all three Chiefs’ runs in his River Bandits debut.

Quad Cities will look to retake the lead in the series tomorrow night at Modern Woodmen Park, as southpaw Ryan Ramsey (0-1, 20.25) will make his first-career High-A start against Chiefs’ right-hander Zane Mills (6-5, 5.07). First pitch at Modern Woodmen Park is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
