Rancho Cucamonga, CA -- Lindsey Caughel was awarded the California League's Pitcher of the Week Award for his brilliant outing versus Inland Empire on Saturday. He becomes the fourth Quake to win a weekly award from the league.
The righty was sidelined for a month and a half with an injury, but has been nothing but dominant in his return to Rancho's rotation. On Saturday, he earned his fourth win of the season after shutting out the Inland Empire 66ers over seven innings on Sunday. He only allowed three hits and a walk, while striking out eight batters. That was his first start since May 6.
In his return from injury, Caughel tossed six innings in relief of Julio Urias against Inland Empire on June 22. He gave up just one run on five hits and earned the victory in an 8-1 win for Rancho. In those last two outings, he has allowed just one run in 13 innings while striking out 13 and walking one man.
Caughel becomes the fourth Quake and first pitcher to take home a weekly honor in 2014, joining Corey Seager, Chris Jacobs and Aaron Miller. One other Dodger prospect took home an award, with Ogden's Jose De Leon winning the Pioneer League's Pitcher of the Week award after striking out 18 in 13 innings of work last week.
