Quakes Weathered by Storm, 7-2
The Storm scored two more in the 3rd inning against Schoeninger on an RBI double by Colt Morton and an RBI single by Yefri Carvajal to lead 4-0. Schoeninger lasted just 2.2 innings in his first start since having Tommy John surgery in 2008.
The Quakes, who had just one hit going into the 6th, got their first run on a solo home run by Brian Walker to bring the score to 4-1. Rancho had runners on first and second with two outs, but Julio Perez lined out to third to end the inning.
Jeremy Haynes did a fine job out of the Quakes bullpen allowing no runs on two hits over 3.1 innings of work in relief of starter Tim Schoeninger.
Lake Elsinore added three runs in the bottom of the 8th inning on an RBI double by Brad Chalk and a two-run double by Keoni Ruth to make the score 7-1.
Rancho would add a run in the 9th on an infield single by PJ Phillips to make the eventual final score 7-2 Storm.
The Quakes will continue their road trip in Lake Elsinore Monday with right hander Esmerlin Jimenez starting for the Quakes against right hander Wynn Pelzer. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
