San Bernardino, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes corralled a victory on the Fourth of July, defeating the Inland Empire 66ers in game one of the three-game series by a final score of 3-0.
A couple of long balls paired with scoreless baseball from the pitching staff gave Rancho their fourth shutout victory of the campaign, and extended their current win streak to four games.
Marcus Chiu kicked off the scoring on Thursday night with a solo shot to right field for his 11th blast of the year, making it 1-0, Quakes.
Two innings later, Starling Heredia belted his sixth homer on the season, a two-run jack, extending Rancho's lead to 3-0.
That was all the scoring the Boys in Blue would need as Leo Crawford, Max Gamboa and Sven Schueller held the 66ers off the scoreboard all night long. Crawford (3-3) earned the win in a superb 5.2 innings of work, scattering seven hits with eight strikeouts.
Gamboa and Schueller, both escaping a bases-loaded jam in the seventh and eighth, respectively, combined for 3.1 scoreless frames. Schueller recorded his third save of the season.
The loss went to Kyle Bradish (3-5), as he gave up the two home runs (three earned) in his four innings.
On Friday, the Quakes look for their fifth-straight win with LHP Austin Hamilton (2-1), while the Sixers counter with RHP Travis Herrin (3-2).
Following the six-day stretch away from home, Rancho Cucamonga returns to LoanMart on Wednesday, July 10th, hosting the San Jose Giants for a three-game set.
