Lancaster, CA- The Quakes jockeyed back and forth with the JetHawks on Saturday night but fell short of a late-inning comeback, dropping game two of the series at The Hangar 6-5.
Despite a pair of home runs in the game, the second straight loss hands Rancho their first series defeat in the second half.
Rancho put the tying run on second base in the ninth but Lancaster reliever Justin Lawrence struck out the final two hitters of the game to lock up the save.
The scoring opened right out of the gate as Jared Walker led off with home run against Lancaster starter Antonio Santos, his eleventh on the season. Trailing for the first time in the series, Lancaster quickly bounced back and scored a pair of runs against Austin Hamilton.
Saige Jenco was given home on a throwing error in the third and Cristian Santana knocked in Estevez with a single, as a pair of unearned runs put Rancho back in front 3-2. Lancaster rallied while trailing for a second time, scoring a run in the home half to even the game back up at three. Hamilton allowed three earned runs and saw his night come to a close after three innings, settling with a no-decision.
Parker Curry (6-2) entered on in the fourth and tossed a pair of scoreless innings before Manny Melendez notched a two-run double in the sixth for a 5-3 lead.
Both clubs exchanged a pair of home runs late to cap the scoring. Vince Fernandez clubbed a solo shot in the seventh and Santana's two-run shot in the eight closed the comeback effort at 6-5.
Reliver Salvador Justo (3-1) walked away with the win for the JetHawks on Saturday night.
The Quakes will look to avoid the series sweep on Sunday with RHP Max Gamboa (1-1) scheduled to start for the Quakes while Lancaster will counter with Matt Dennis (7-11). First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM.
The Quakes close the six-game road trip with three games in San Jose before returning to LoanMart Field on August 10th to host the JetHawks. Tickers for the Quakes upcoming games are available online at rcquakes.com or by calling (909) 481-5000.
