Rancho Cucamonga, CA-The historic 15-game winning streak came to a close on Wednesday night as the Quakes fell to Lancaster, 6-2.
The Quakes never led in the contest and the loss marks the first defeat since June 25th in Lake Elsinore.
Left-hander Austin Hamilton was called in to start in place of Isaac Anderson, who was promoted to double-A Tulsa prior to the game. Hamilton pitched a 1-2-3 first inning, but allowed an RBI-double to Joel Diaz in the second to make it 1-0 Lancaster.
The JetHawks crossed an additional pair of runs in the third against Hamilton. Colton Welker drove home Manny Melendez on a sacrifice fly and Tyler Nevin added an RBI-two-bagger for the 3-zip lead. Hamilton (1-1) had his night come to an end after four complete innings, striking out one and not walking a batter in the loss.
Rancho attempted to inch their way back in the third with a Gavin Lux leadoff single. The base hit extended Lux's hitting streak to a season-best for the Quakes at 13 games. Rylan Bannon followed with a double to open the scoring and Connor Wong smashed a solo shot in the fourth to make it 3-2 Lancaster.
Reliever Ryan Moseley entered on in the fifth but battled control problems, issuing a bases loaded walk and surrendering a two-run double to Wes Rogers. Moseley was removed after two-thirds of an inning and Yeison Cespedes proceeded to cover 3.1 shutout frames for the Quakes.
The Quakes managed to put the tying run on deck in the ninth after reliever Justin Lawrence opened with free passes to Saige Jenco and Lux. Lawrence however, would go on to retire three in order and close the game at 6-2.
Following the loss, the Quakes see the historic 15-game winning streak come to a close but still sit six games ahead, in first place in the south division at 18-3.
The Quakes will look to take three-of-four from the JetHawks on Thursday night with RHP Dustin May (5-3) scheduled to start for Rancho Cucamonga. Lancaster's starting pitcher has not been announced for Thursday's action beginning at 7:05 PM.
