MIDLAND-Rod Boykin homered twice and Jerry Keel worked seven solid innings to help the Missions take three of four in the series with a 4-3 win over the Rockhounds Monday afternoon at Security Bank Ballpark.
Keel (3-0) matched his season-high by working seven innings while allowing only a pair of runs. One of them was on a homerun off the bat of Seth Brown. It was only the second homer Keel has ever allowed to a left-handed hitter.
Boykin entered the day in a terrible slump, having struck out in 22 of his previous 28 at-bats and in 36 of his prior 67 plate appearances.
Boykin slugged a two-run homer in the fifth inning and then gave San Antonio the lead with another two-run shot in the seventh. It was Boykin's first career multi-homer game and the club's seventh of the season.
San Antonio finished a 3-5 trip that started by getting swept in a four-game set by Corpus Christi.
The team returns home Tuesday night to open a six-game homestand against Tulsa and Springfield.
