CORPUS CHRISTI-The Hooks exploded for seven runs in the seventh inning en-route to an 8-2 win over the Missions Sunday night at Whataburger Field.
The Missions division lead was cut to two games over Corpus with eight to play in the first half.
Josh Naylor slugged his 10th homerun of the season in the sixth inning for San Antonio to tie the game, 1-1.
San Antonio starter Jacob Nix was strong for five innings, permitting just one run on two hits. The right-hander suddenly had trouble throwing strikes to open the sixth, as he walked the first three batters in the frame before being replaced by Jason Jester, who worked out the jam and kept the score even.
Nix finished his night by issuing a career-high five walks.
Jester started the seventh inning by walking light-hitting catcher Lorenzo Quintana.
By the time dust settled, Corpus Christi had collected seven hits in the inning, including four doubles, to tally seven runs and break the game open.
The inning was the biggest allowed by the Missions this year and the most runs that Jester had ever allowed in his career.
