Peoria, IL: After picking up their 10th win of the season in last night's game against the Peoria Chiefs, the South Bend Cubs entered Sunday with the opportunity to win their first away series of the season.

After a five run top of the 3rd inning, the Cubs held on to win the game despite a late Peoria rally. With the win, South Bend improves to 11-15 on the year with a six game home stand on the horizon.
Sending right hander Rollie Lacy to the mound for his first start with South Bend, the Cubs inserted Lacy into their six-man rotation with Jose Albertos moving to the bullpen. Sunday was Lacy's second professional start and first since 2017 with the Eugene Emeralds.
Lacy matched his season high on innings pitched with four on Sunday. He took a no-decision in the game after allowing two runs on six hits while throwing 59 pitches. Lacy did not strike out a batter in the game.
The Cubs did all their damage in the 3rd inning off of Chiefs starter Jake Walsh. The middle of the South Bend order came up big in the inning after Jhonny Bethencourt, Jared Young, Austin Filiere, Miguel Amaya, Michael Cruz, and Brandon Hughes all reached base.
Young, FIliere, and Cruz picked up the RBI in the inning. Cruz hit his fourth home run of the season out to deep right center field to bring in Filiere and Amaya. Cruz has now hit three home runs since returning from the disabled list last week.
South Bend was able to hold on for the win despite Peoria scoring four unanswered runs with one in both the 3rd and 4th, and two in the 7th inning. Chiefs second baseman Irving Lopez hit Peoria's only home run to bring in the two runs in the 7th.
Despite the rally, right hander Enrique De Los Rios silenced the bats of the Chiefs with two scoreless frames to pick up his second save of the season. Jesus Camargo earned the win by tossing three innings and allowing the Lopez round tripper. Peoria's starter Walsh took the loss in the game despite pitching seven innings and striking out five.
The Cubs close this six game road trip on a high note after losing the first four games, including being swept by Cedar Rapids. South Bend will return home to host the Burlington Bees for the first of a three game series tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at Four Winds Field.
