Spokane, Wash. - Spokane Indians alum Emmanuel Clase was named a 2022 Sporting News All-Star after a dominant season that saw the young right-hander lead the American League with 42 saves. Voting was conducted among a panel of 12 AL executives during September and early October, with Clase, Aaron Judge, and Mike Trout leading the way with 10 votes each.

Clase topped the AL with 77 appearances while posting a 1.36 ERA, 0.729 WHIP, and striking out 77 against just 10 walks in 72.2 innings for the Cleveland Guardians. The 24-year-old also picked up a save in the MLB All-Star Game on July 19th after striking out the side in the ninth, and didn't allow a run in four postseason appearances against the Rays and Yankees.

Originally signed out of the Dominican Republic by the San Diego Padres, Clase joined the Spokane Indians in 2018 after being traded to the Texas Rangers for first baseman Brett Nicholas. The right-hander appeared in 22 games for the Indians that summer, registering an 0.64 ERA with 12 saves while helping Spokane reach the Northwest League Playoffs.

Clase is the first Indians alum to be named a Sporting News All-Star since Chris Davis in 2015.
