JUPITER, Fla. (April 12, 2024) – The Jupiter Hammerheads overcame a 4-0 deficit at the seventh inning stretch to stun the St. Lucie Mets 5-4 at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Friday Night.

Mark Coley II belted a two-out, walk-off triple in the bottom of the ninth to win the game for the Hammerheads. It was Coley’s fourth triple of the series.

The Mets enjoyed a 4-0 lead entering the bottom of the seventh but the game started to unravel for St. Lucie when Jake DeLeo hit a crucial RBI single on the eighth pitch of an at-bat against Wyatt Hudepohl to drive in the first Hammerheads run of the night. After a two-out walk, Jordan McCants hit a run-scoring single to plate DeLeo and make it 4-2.

Jupiter scored twice in the bottom of the eighth with the help of a walk and two errors to tie the game. The inning started with a leadoff walk taken by Brock Vradenburg against Ryan Ammons. After a fly out, Ammons got a ground ball from Yeral Martinez to second baseman Diego Mosquero, who made an errant throw to second base. Johnny Olmstead followed with a double to bring home Vradenburg. Martinez scored the tying run on the play on a throwing error.

Jupiter reliever Josh Eckness struck out the side in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, Jimmy Loper struck out two batters but Coley II crushed the triple to ensure there would be no extra innings.

The Mets jumped out to a quick lead on a two-run double by Jesus Baez in the second inning. Donovan Antonia brought in a run on a ground out in the third inning to make it 3-0.

The Mets collected eight hits through the first four innings but did not have a hit over the final five innings.

Mets pitchers Saul Garcia and Layonel Ovalles combined to pitch the first 5.0 innings scoreless. They struck out seven batters between them.

Hudepohl turned in a scoreless seventh inning before running into trouble in the seventh.

Baez and Fabian Machado had two hits apiece. Mosquera extended his hitting streak to six games with a single in the second inning.

The Mets (2-5) and Hammerheads (4-3) play the fifth game of their series at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
