JUPITER, Fla. (April 13, 2024) – The St. Lucie Mets dismantled the Jupiter Hammerheads 14-1 at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Saturday night.

The Mets’ 14 runs and 12 hits were season highs. The Mets entered the day with a -12 run differential and departed with a +1 differential.

While the Mets offense was lethal early and often, the pitching was excellent. Starter Jonah Tong and relievers Austin Troesser and Juan Arnaud combined for 18 strikeouts which tied a franchise record. The trio limited the Hammerheads to four hits and one unearned run.

Tong struck out 10 in 4.0 innings of one-hit ball. Tong now has 21 strikeouts in 8.1 innings this season. He has not allowed an earned run.

Troesser pitched the next 4.0 inning without allowing a run or a walk. He struck out six.

Arnaud fanned two in the ninth.

The Mets offense was hot early, scoring three runs in the first inning and knocking Marlins top prospect Noble Meyer out of the game after he recorded just two outs. Nick Morabito lashed a two-run triple down the first base line with two outs to get the scoring started. Vincent Perozo then blooped in an RBI single to make it 3-0.

Morabito registered an RBI single in the second inning to put the Mets up 5-0.

St. Lucie broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning. Jupiter reliever Jhoniel Serrano walked the first two batters and plunked the third to load the bases. Yohairo Cuevas delivered a two-run single, and a third run scored on the play on a throwing error.

After Serrano was taken out, Jesus Baez greeted new pitcher Chris Mokma with a three-run homer to push the lead to 12-1. It was Baez’s first home run of the season.

Diego Mosquera, who saw his six-game hitting streak end, hit a run-scoring ground out in the sixth and an RBI sac fly in the eighth for the final two runs of the night.

Baez, Cuevas, Morabito, Vincent Perozo and Chris Suero had two hits each. Ronald Hernandez went 1 for 3 with three walks. He has drawn 11 walks in seven games.

The Mets (3-5) and Hammerheads (4-4) meet in the series finale at Roger Dean Chevrolet on Sunday afternoon. The Mets seek a series split while the Hammerheads aim for the series win. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
