PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (June 14, 2022) – The St. Lucie Mets moved one step closer the wrapping up the Florida State League East Division first-half title with a thrilling 8-7 win over the Tampa Tarpons at Clover Park on Tuesday.

The Mets trimmed their magic number to capture the East division crown to one. They can win the division with a victory tomorrow or a Jupiter loss.

The Mets had their biggest comeback win on Tuesday, overcoming an early 5-0 deficit to win their 11th straight home game. Alex Ramirez went 2 for 3 with two home runs, two walks, four RBI and three runs to propel the offense.

Trailing 5-0, Ramirez launched a 409-foot solo home run in the bottom of the third inning to get the Mets on the board.

The Mets scored five runs in the fourth to take the lead. Jack-Thomas Wold slugged a two-run homer and Ramirez clobbered a three-run shot to put the Mets up 6-5.

The Tarpons scored the next two runs on a ground out and an error to go up 7-6.

With the bases loaded in the bottom the sixth, Stanley Consuegra hit a ground ball to short that was booted by Alexander Vargas. Vargas compounded the problem by throwing the ball away, allowing the Mets to score two runs to take an 8-7 lead.

Reliever Daniel Juarez pitched the final 2.1 innings without giving up a run to get his fourth save. Consuegra made a catch falling down in left field for the second out of the ninth then threw to second base from his knees to double off Jasson Dominguez to end the game.

The Mets (38-19) and Tarpons (24-34) play again at Clover Park on Wednesday at 6:10 p.m.
