PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (August 31, 2022) – The St. Lucie Mets snapped a four-game losing skid with a 7-4 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Wednesday at Clover Park.

Chase Estep broke a 4-4 tie with a two-out, two-strike three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the Mets up 7-4.

Jordan Geber, who entered the game in the fifth inning, faced just one batter over the minimum in the final three innings to preserve the lead and get his first win.

Jupiter took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out RBI double by Jordan Berry. The Mets scored two runs in the bottom of the inning when Omar De Los Santos scored from third on a wild pitch and D’Andre Smith hit a run-scoring ground out for a 2-1 Mets lead.

Smith pummeled a two-run homer 400 feet in the bottom of the fifth inning to push the Mets lead to 4-1. It was his first home run with St. Lucie.

Geber walked three batters to load the bases in the top of the sixth. Cam Barstad hit a RBI single to make it 4-2, then Chase Luttrell hit a two-out, two-run single that tied the game 4-4.

Estep’s clutch homer, his fourth of the season, against lefty Maycold Leon on a 0-2 pitch was the only offense the rest of the way.

Estep went 2 for 3 with the homer, a single, walk and two RBI.

De Los Santos was 3 for 4 from the leadoff spot with two more stolen bases. He now has 70 stolen bases on the year and is just five away from tying the team record. De Los Santos is the first Florida State League player since Brevard County’s Eric Farris in 2009 to reach the 70 stolen base mark.

Dylan Tebrake, the Mets eighth round draft pick from Creighton, made his team debut and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.

Eric Orze, on MiLB rehab assignment from Syracuse, pitched two scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

Carlos Ocampo, on MiLB rehab assignment from Brooklyn, made the start and pitched the first inning. He allowed one run on two hits.

The Mets (68-51, 28-27) and Hammerheads (58-61, 24-31) play game 3 of their six-game series at Clover Park on Thursday. It’s Dollar Night with $1 Bud and Bud Light, $1 soda, $1 popcorn and $2 hot dogs. First pitch is 6:10 p.m.
