DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 24, 2017) - The Florida State League announced on Monday that St. Lucie Mets first baseman Peter Alonso was chosen as the League's Player of the Week for July 17-23.

This is the second FSL weekly honor for Alonso. He was also named Player of the Week for the period of June 19-25.

Last week Alonso went 9 for 30 with four home runs, three doubles, eight RBI and seven runs scored. Alonso has 12 home runs in 54 games this season. The last St. Lucie Met to reach at least 12 homers in a season was Dustin Lawley in 2013.

Alonso, 22, was selected by the Mets in the second round of the 2016 draft out of Florida. The former Gator is in his first year with the St. Lucie Mets. He missed nearly two months early in the season after suffering a broken hand in the first week.

Alonso and the Mets conclude their four-game series with the Florida Fire Frogs on Monday at Osceola County Stadium.
