Mets draw 11 walks, clip Tarpons 4-3

TAMPA, Fla. (April 10, 2019) - The St. Lucie Mets jumped out to a 4-0 lead and and hung on to beat the Tampa Tarpons 4-3 at Steinbrenner Field on Wednesday night.
The Mets drew 11 walks and the free passes played a role in all four runs the Mets scored. Desmond Lindsay went 1 for 1 with a single and four walks. Lindsay reached base in his final three plate appearances on Tuesday and all five plate appearances on Wednesday to extend his on-base streak to eight.
The St. Lucie Mets record for most consecutive times reaching base is 10 by Tripp Keister in 1995.
Mets starter Briam Campusano picked up the win in his first start of the year. He fired five scoreless innings and gave up just two singles. He walked one and struck out three.
Conner O'Neil only needed 19 pitches over the final two innings to record the save.
For the third straight game Blake Tiberi started the game with a hit and went on to score. He was plated by Quinn Brodey on a double play ball to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.
Tiberi again reached base on a hit to start the third inning. Later in the frame with the bases loaded Brodey lofted a sac fly that brought in Tiberi for a 2-0 lead. A throwing error on the play scored Hansel Moreno to make it 3-0.
Cody Bohanek lashed two-out RBI single in the fifth that brought in Lindsay for a 4-0 lead.
The Tarpons offense sparked to life in the seventh when Tyler Hill hit a two-out, three-run homer off of Marcel Renteria. However, Renteria and O'Neil did not let the Tarpons threaten again.
Tarpons starter Clarke Schmidt walked five in 3.2 innings. He took the loss. Reliever Dalton Lehnen walked four and Braden Bistro walked two.
The win was the fourth in a row for the Mets. They secured a series victory over the Tarpons and a winning road trip with the victory.
The Mets (4-3) aim for the sweep of the Tarpons (2-5) when the teams conclude their four-game series at Steinbrenner Field on Thursday morning. First pitch is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
