Nick Raposo’s Three-Run Home Run Lifts Tacoma to 8-7 Win

TACOMA, WA (August 11, 2026) — The Tacoma Rainiers (17-23/50-65) held off the Reno Aces (20-20/52-63) to win 8-7 Tuesday afternoon in the series opener at Cheney Stadium. Tacoma batted around in the fourth inning and plated five runs to overcome an early four-run deficit. Nick Raposo crushed his second Rainiers home run in the win, a three-run home run in the sixth inning. Troy Taylor earned the save by recording the final two outs of the game.

Reno opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Jose Fernandez dunked a double into right field to lead off the ballgame. Two batters later, LuJames Groover lined a single into right field, scoring Fernandez to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Aces added on a pair in the second inning. Pavin Smith worked a leadoff walk and after A.J. Vukovich struck out, Gavin Conticello (5) lined a two-run shot over the right field wall, making it 3-0.

Reno extended the lead to four in the top of the third inning as Adrian Del Castillo (4) smacked a leadoff home run off the video board in right-center field.

Tacoma took the lead with a five-run outburst in the fourth inning. With one out, Brock Rodden pulled a double into left field for the first Rainiers hit of the game. Two batters later, Patrick Wisdom crushed a 431-foot double off the batter’s eye in center field. Rodden trotted home to make it 4-1. Then, Lazaro Montes and Connor Joe worked back-to-back walks to load the bases with two outs. The next batter, Stuart Fairchild, lined a single into left field, plating Wisdom and Montes to bring Tacoma within one, 4-3. Miles Mastrobuoni gave the Rainiers their first lead of the game when he laced a double down the right field line, scoring Joe and Fairchild to make it 5-4.

Tacoma started to pull away in the bottom of the sixth inning. Joe drove a leadoff single into left field and moved up to third when Fairchild smoked a double into left. After Mastrobuoni struck out, Nick Raposo (2) pulled a three-run shot over the left field wall, making it 8-4.

The Aces got a run back in the seventh inning when Jose Fernandez hit a one-out, solo homer over the right-center field wall, making it 8-5.

Reno continued to chip away in the top of the eighth inning. With one down, Demetrio Crisantes (1) hit a solo shot over the left-center field wall, cutting Tacoma’s lead to 8-6.

The Aces entered the ninth inning needing two runs to stay alive. Fernandez hit a single into center field to lead off the frame and the next batter, Del Castillo, ripped a double off the right field wall, getting the tying run in scoring position. After Groover flied out to right, Troy Taylor was called upon to get the final two outs for Tacoma. Manuel Pena brought Fernandez home with a sacrifice fly to center field to bring Reno within one, 8-7. Taylor got Crisantes to ground out to end the ballgame as the Rainiers held on to win 8-7 in the series opener.

Tacoma looks to attend their series lead Wednesday night. RHP Nick Hull will toe the rubber for the Rainiers as first pitch is set for 7:05 PM.

POSTGAME NOTES:

  • RHP Houston Roth and RHP Gunner Mayer combined to strike out eight batters in the first three innings on Tuesday…it’s the most strikeouts through the first three frames of a game by the Rainiers this season and the third-most since 2005…Tacoma have only recorded all nine outs via strike outs in the first three innings of a game twice since 2005 (September 1, 2019, at Las Vegas and May 21, 2022, at Sacramento).

  • Tacoma’s seven, eight, and nine hitters combined to drive in seven runs on Tuesday afternoon, tying the club’s season-high…it’s the second time the bottom three in the order recorded seven RBI in a game with the first coming on August 5th at Las Vegas.

  • INF Patrick Wisdom hit a 431-foot double off the batter’s eye in center field in the fourth inning Tuesday…he finished 1-for-4 with a double, RBI, and run scored…it’s the longest non-home run hit at Cheney Stadium this season and the longest since INF Ryan Bliss hit a 433-foot double on September 17, 2024, against Round Rock.

  • C Nick Raposo smacked a three-run home run in the sixth inning Tuesday afternoon, his second home run with Tacoma…he finished 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, a walk, and a run scored…it’s his first home run against a right-handed pitcher this season and first since May 16, 2025, with Double-A Arkansas.
