Rainiers Lose 16-1 Wednesday Night 

TACOMA, WA (August 26, 2026) — The Tacoma Rainiers (25-28/58-70) fell 16-1 to the Salt Lake Bees (19-33/58-68) Wednesday night. The Bees scored 14 of their runs in the first three innings, until Scott Effross recorded 2.2 scoreless innings in relief to calm the waters. Troy Taylor tossed 2.0 scoreless frames, covering the eighth and ninth innings. Connor Joe went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run, extending his on-base streak to 23 games in the defeat.

Salt Lake opened the scoring in the first inning. Nelson Rada lined a single into right field to lead off the game and advanced to second when Kyren Paris worked a walk. Then, Pablo Reyes laid down a sacrifice bunt. Reyes made it all the way to second on a throwing error with Paris stopping at third and Rada coming in to score, giving the Bees an early 1-0 lead. Jeimer Candelario walked to load the bases with no outs and the next batter, Raudi Rodriguez grounded into a double play, scoring Paris to make it 2-0. Yolmer Sánchez pounded a single through the right side of the infield, bringing home Reyes and extending the lead to three.

Salt Lake plated four runs in the top of the second inning. Cade Marlowe hit a leadoff single to center field and stole second base to get into scoring position. Logan Porter walked and the next batter, Rada, grounded into a fielder’s choice that pushed Marlowe up to third. Then, Rada stole second and an errant throw allowed him to get to third safely and Marlowe to cross the plate, making it 4-0. Paris brought home Rada with a sacrifice fly to center field, extending the Bees’ lead to five. Reyes hit a two-out single into left field and then, Candelario (14) crushed a two-run shot over the right field wall to make it 7-1.

Tacoma got on the board in the home half of the second frame. With one out, Connor Joe lined a single into right field. The next two batters, Stuart Fairchild and Andy Ibáñez both walked to load the bases. Then, Victor Labrada grounded into a fielder’s choice, allowing Joe to score and make it 7-1.

The Bees scored seven more in the third inning, sending 12 batters to the plate in the frame. Sánchez smacked a triple into the right-center field gap to lead off the frame. Two batters later, Marlowe laced a single into center field, the first of four consecutive singles that pushed it to 9-1.

After Porter and Rada singled, a wild pitch allowed Porter to score and Rada to move up to second, extending the lead to nine. Paris and Reyes worked back-to-back walks to load the bases. Then, Candelario and Rodriguez singled and walked to make it 12-1. Sánchez grounded into a fielder’s choice and Ben Gobbel singled to cap off the seven-run frame, extending the Bees’ lead to 14-1.

Salt Lake added a pair in the seventh inning. Reyes hit a leadoff single into center field and moved up to second when Candelario walked. Then, Rodriguez singled on a ground ball that bounced off of second base, pushing Candelario up to third and plating Reyes to make it 15-1. The next batter, Sánchez grounded into a double play, scoring Candelario to push the Bees’ lead up to 15.

Tacoma was set down in order in the ninth inning, falling 16-1 in the second game of the series Wednesday.

The Rainiers look to retake the series lead Thursday night. RHP Carson Fulmer will get the ball for Tacoma and first pitch is set for 7:05 PM.

• INF/OF Connor Joe extended his on-base streak to 23 games with a single in the second inning Wednesday, finishing 1-for-3 with a run scored…it’s the longest on-base streak by a Rainiers hitter this season and the longest since Rhylan Thomas reached in 23 straight games from August 12-September 6, 2025…23 games is Joe’s longest on-base streak since reaching 24 consecutive times from April 29-May 28, 2022, with Colorado.

• OF Victor Labrada walked in the eighth inning Wednesday night, extending his on-base streak to 10 games and his walk streak to five games…it’s Labrada’s second-longest on-base streak this season, one-game behind his 11-game streak from July 1-19.

• RHP Troy Taylor tossed a season-high 2.0 innings Wednesday, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out three…it marked the third time this season Taylor has recorded 2.0 IP and is the most times he has spun 2.0 IP since doing it three times in 2024 (all with Double-A Arkansas).

• RHP Scott Effross tossed 2.2 scoreless innings of relief on Wednesday, tied for the second-longest relief outing by a Rainiers pitcher this season and the longest relief appearance for a Rainiers pitcher this season without allowing a run or a walk.
