Rainiers Lose Fifth Straight Sunday Afternoon

TACOMA, WA (August 2, 2026) — The Tacoma Rainiers (12-21/45-63) fell to the Sacramento River Cats (19-14/61-44) in the series finale by a score of 9-1 Sunday. Michael Arroyo drove in Tacoma’s only run in the eighth inning, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Nick Garcia and Troy Taylor both tossed 2.0 scoreless innings in relief in the loss.

Sacramento got out to an early lead, plating three runs in the top of the first inning. Jonah Cox pounded a single through the middle of the infield to lead off the game and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Then, Scott Bandura floated a single into shallow right-center field to put runners on the corners. Parks Harber worked a walk to load the bases for Bo Davidson. The left-hand hitting outfielder grounded out to first, bringing home Cox from third to score the first run of the game, 1-0. Harber moved up to third and Bandura scampered home on a wild pitch, doubling the River Cats’ lead. After Will Brennan flied out to left field, Turner Hill dropped a single into shallow center field, scoring Harber to make it 3-0.

Sacramento broke the game open in the seventh inning. With one out, Cox smacked a single through the right side of the infield and advanced to second on a Bandura walk. After Harber struck out swinging, Davidson worked a walk to load the bases with two outs in the frame. Then, Brennan (4) lined a grand slam over the right field wall, making it 7-0.

The River Cats added on in the top of the eighth inning as Eddys Leonard (4) pulled a leadoff homer into the left field seats, extending the lead to eight. Then, Thomas Gavello worked a walk and jogged to second on a wild pitch. After Adrián Sugasety struck out and Cox flied out, Bandura pulled a single into right field, plating Gavello to make it 9-0.

Tacoma got on the board in the home half of the eighth inning, to break up the shutout bid. Miles Mastrobuoni drove a single into center field to lead off the frame. Then, Nick Raposo and Victor Labrada worked back-to-back walks to load the bases. After Ryan Bliss struck out swinging, Michael Arroyo beat out an infield single, bringing home Mastrobuoni to score the Rainiers’ first run, 9-1.

The Rainiers went down in order in the ninth inning, dropping the series finale 9-1. Tacoma will head to Las Vegas to start a six-game set against the Aviators Tuesday. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM.

POSTGAME NOTES:

• INF/OF Michael Arroyo drove in Tacoma’s only run Sunday, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and RBI…since his promotion to Triple-A, his 29 hits rank fourth in the PCL, 47 total bases are tied for the fourth-most and is tied for the fifth-most in doubles (7) and RBI (19)...his 14 hits against left-handed pitchers are the most in Triple-A and tied for the most in the minor leagues in that time.

• RHP Nick Garcia tossed 2.0 hitless innings Sunday afternoon, his sixth scoreless outing of 2.0 IP or more this season…since July 25, Garcia has struck out nine batters over his last three appearances, the most by a PCL reliever in the span and tied for the second-most in Triple-A.

• RHP Troy Taylor tossed 2.0 scoreless innings Sunday, allowing two hits while striking out one…it’s his first time recording 2.0 IP in consecutive appearances since August 6-10, 2023, with Single-A Modesto.
