SEVIERVILLE, TENNESSEE - The Smokies clinched the series on Sunday evening with a 6-5 victory over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, making it four straight wins for Tennessee.
Pensacola would strike first by scoring one run in the first inning off of a Josh Vanmeter single to score Gabriel Guerrero. The Blue Wahoos would then tack on four runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead.
The Smokies' bats got off to a slow start on Sunday against Pensacola's pitching staff. Carlos Penalver then started the Smokies rally off in the fifth inning with a single into left field. Erick Castillo doubled to knock in Penalver, and then Castillo would cross the plate with a single from Daniel Spingola. David Bote continued the rally with a double into right-center field, scoring Daniel Spingola. The Smokies would cap off the scoring parade in the fifth inning by Balaguert reaching on fielding error that would score David Bote and Jason Vosler.
The Smokies would continue the hot streak into the sixth inning with an Erick Castillo double into left field. The Smokies would take the lead 6-5 with a Charcer Burks single, scoring Castillo before Burks was thrown out at second base attempting to stretch the single into a double.
Trevor Clifton made the start for the Smokies on Sunday evening, tossing 3.2 innings. Clifton allowed 10 hits and five runs in the outing. Daury Torrez would come in from the bullpen, pitching 2.1 innings before Jake Stinnett would come in to throw in the seventh and eighth innings. Craig Brooks would finish off the win, receiving the save by allowing no hits, one walk, and no runs in the ninth Inning. Torrez received the win for the contest with the Smokies taking the victory 6-5 against Pensacola.
The Smokies will look for their fifth straight win on Monday Night. Game four of the five-game series is set for 7:00 p.m. ET with gates opening at 6:00 p.m. ET. Monday's game will allow fans to enjoy one dollar hot dogs all night long with another Dollar Dog Night, presented by Toyota Knoxville.
