BURLINGTON, VT --- Billy Oldham retired 15 of 16 batters faced and Noah Granet went 3-for-4 including a two-run homer to lead the Vermont Lake Monsters to a 4-1 victory over the Westfield Starfires in Futures League action Saturday evening at historic Centennial Field..

Oldham (Eastern Connecticut State) retired the first nine Starfires in order before allowing a leadoff bloop single to centerfield in the fourth just off the glove of a diving Andrew Bergeron. Oldham then retired the next six Westfield hitters to finish his five innings with one hit allowed and three strikeouts.

Bergeron led off the bottom of the first inning with a line drive double off the left-centerfield fence and one-out later Granet (Princeton) drilled a 0-1 pitch to left field for an early 2-0 Vermont lead. The home run was the second of the season for Granet and the sixth of the season for the Lake Monsters team.

Granet led off the sixth with an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error by shortstop Patrick Dillon. Brian Hadden (Dean College) followed with an RBI single to left plating Granet with the Lake Monsters third run.

Vermont added another run in the seventh when Francis Ferguson (Eastern Nazarene) singled, then stole second and third before scoring on a Bergeron RBI single to right for a 4-0 Lake Monsters advantage. Bergeron and Ferguson had two hits and a run scored on the night.

Joe Henry (Georgetown) two walks and four strikeouts over three hitless innings of relief for Vermont (8-6), which has now won seven of its last eight games. Westfield got its run in the ninth with the help of four walks and had the tying run on first with one out, but Isaiah Rhodes got a 5-3 double play to end the game.

The Lake Monsters and Starfires will meet again Sunday, this time down in Westfield starting at 3:00 pm. Vermont will play four more road games during the week before returning home to Centennial on June 19th.
