BURLINGTON, VT --- Noah Lewis did not allow a hit over the first 7 1/3 innings, while his Westfield teammates pounded out 17 hits in a 10-2 Starfires victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters in Futures League action Sunday evening at historic Centennial Field.

Lewis (UMaine) allowed just one baserunner over the first 7 1/3 innings, a leadoff walk in the second inning that was erased one pitch later on a double play. He cruised along until the eighth inning when Jakob Bullard (Stetson) smashed a triple to the fence in centerfield and two batters later former Burlington High Schooler Sky Rahill (Salisbury U) drilled a two-run homer to right for Vermont’s only runs of the day.

Meanwhile the Starfires scored single runs in the first and second innings off Vermont starter Patrick Harrington (Assumption), then added single unearned runs off reliever Tyler Fagler (Dartmouth) in the fifth and sixth for a 4-0 lead.

Westfield put the game out of reach with four runs in the eighth, including a Henry Martinez home run leading off the inning. The three other Starfires runs in the inning were unearned as the Lake Monsters defense made five errors in the contest.

Cole Bartels went 4-for-5 including a two-run double in the ninth inning, while Matt Garbowski was 3-for-5 with an RBI double in the eighth. Lewis (2-0) struckout 10 Lake Monsters over his eight innings for the win.

The Lake Monsters have now lost five straight and seven of their last nine since a six-game winning streak. Vermont (9-12) will look to get back in the win column when they open a two-game series at Nashua on Tuesday.
