Ports Outlast Toros in Ten Innings

VISALIA, CA - The Stockton Ports tied the game in the top of the seventh and took a lead in the top of the tenth on an RBI single by Trace Loehr to beat los Toros in ten innings, 2-1.

VISALIA, CA - The Stockton Ports tied the game in the top of the seventh and took a lead in the top of the tenth on an RBI single by Trace Loehr to beat los Toros in ten innings, 2-1.

Visalia (54-59/17-26) stranded fourteen runners on base and collected just two hits with runners in scoring position. Mark Karaviotis led the way for los Toros with three hits. Adam Walton picked up the lone RBI by singling home Renae Martinez in the fourth.
Stockton (65-48/21-22) received a three-hit night from Santiago Chávez and two perfect innings from Angel Duno (W, 4-2) in the ninth and tenth.
Matt Brill (L, 1-3) retired the side in order in the ninth to force extra innings but surrendered a pair of hits in the tenth to give the Ports the lead.
Cole Stapler delivered his best start yet for Visalia, going six innings and holding the Ports scoreless while striking our four and allowing only four hits. He ended his night by striking out Eric Mariñez to strand the tying run on third base and hold a 1-0 lead.
Ports starter Zack Erwin lasted 5.2 innings and held los Toros to one run while scattering seven hits and striking out six.
Los Toros loaded the bases with one out in both the first and seventh innings, but failed to score both times. The left a runner on in eight different innings and stranded at least two runners on base four different times. They've now fallen in eight out of their last nine series dating back to July 4, which kicked off a five-game set in Lake Elsinore.
Visalia looks to salvage the final game of the series tomorrow night. Los Toros will send RHP Riley Smith (5-5, 3.86) to the hill against Stockton RHP Kyle Friedrichs (1-1, 4.84). First pitch is at 6 PM and tickets are available on rawhidebaseball.com.

The Visalia Rawhide are a professional baseball team in the Class A Advanced California League and are the only professional sports team in Tulare and Kings counties.
