Yard Goats Split Doubleheader in Portland

Portland, Maine- The Hartford Yard Goats split a doubleheader against the Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday evening at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. In game one, Yard Goats starter Sam Howard was dominant and pitched a 7-inning one-hit shutout while recording his first win of the season in the Yard

Portland, Maine- The Hartford Yard Goats split a doubleheader against the Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday evening at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. In game one, Yard Goats starter Sam Howard was dominant and pitched a 7-inning one-hit shutout while recording his first win of the season in the Yard Goats 3-0 victory. The lefty retired the final 13 batters and became the first Hartford pitcher to record a complete game this season. In game two, Red Sox prospect 3B Rafael Devers had three hits, including a pair of doubles and 2RBI, and Branford native Mike Olt cranked a 3-run homer as the Sea Dogs won the second game 8-1.  

The Yard Goats scored the first run of the doubleheader in the second inning of the first game. Drew Weeks began the second inning with a double off Portland starter Teddy Stankiewicz. Dillon Thomas followed with a double to the gap in left centerfield, scoring Weeks and giving the Yard Goats a 1-0 lead. 
Yard Goats starter Sam Howard only allowed one hit, a two-out single by Josh Tobias in the third inning, while registering his first victory. The left hander retired the final 13 batters of the game, including striking out three of the final four batters faced.
Yard Goats first baseman Correlle Prime cranked a two-run homer into the screen above the Maine Monster giving Hartford a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning. It was Prime's first hit with the Yard Goats as he joined the team on Sunday.     
In game two, the Sea Dogs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Rafael Devers doubled home Deiner Lopez all the way from first base off Hartford starter Luis Niebla. The Yard Goats tied the game in the second inning on Josh Fuentes RBI single scoring Dillon Thomas from second base and making it 1-1.
However, the Sea Dogs took a 2-1 lead on Cole Sturgeon's sacrifice fly in the third inning, scoring Deiner Lopez. Portland added three more runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead. Branford, Connecticut and former UConn star Mike Olt cranked a 3-run homer in the sixth inning to make it 8-1.    
The Yard Goats play the third game of a 4-game series on Wednesday night at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field in Portland,Maine. RHP Ryan Castellani will start for the Yard Goats while RHP Travis Lakins will start for the Sea Dogs. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP or on iheart radio.
