Snappers split series against LumberKings

June 22, 2014

The Beloit Snappers evened their series against the Clinton LumberKings Sunday afternoon as they won 4-1.

Kyle Finnegan pitched six innings for Beloit, giving up one run and four hits. Every Snapper but Jaycob Brugman recorded a hit for the Beloit offense as they tallied 12 hits on the afternoon.

Carlos Misell pitched five innings for the LumberKings, giving up eight hits and two earned runs. Misell had pitched 14 scoreless innings against Beloit in two meetings this season.

The Snappers jumped out to an early lead in the ballgame, as Melvin Mercedes drove home Boog Powell just two batters in.

Powell began the game with a leadoff walk before stealing second base and then scoring on Mercedes' hit.

The LumberKings would respond in the third inning with the help of a pair of 2-out doubles. Zach Shank provided the RBI-double to score Lonnie Kauppila and tie the game 1-1.

Beloit's bats wouldn't stay quiet for long as they regained the lead in the bottom of the inning.

After a pair of singles by Powell and Mercedes, Powell would score on a throwing error by catcher Clinton Carmichael.

Mercedes tacked on another run off an infield single by Chih-Fang Pan to give Beloit a 3-1 advantage.

Luis Baez provided an insurance run in the sixth inning as Luis Baez crushed a solo shot home run to left field.

The Snappers travel to Burlington on Tuesday before returning home for a seven-game homestand Friday night.
