Snappers fail to contain Cougar offense, lose 10-2

June 28, 2014

Kane County's bats wouldn't stay quiet for two nights in a row as the Cougars cruised to a 10-2 victory over the Beloit Snappers Saturday night.

After only scoring three runs in Friday night's 3-2 victory, the Cougars left nothing to doubt in Saturday night's matchup. Kyle Schwarber led the offensive charge for Kane County as he went 4-for-5 with a solo shot home run and a grand slam.

The Chicago Cubs' first round draft pick (4th overall) is batting .467 on the season and has recorded hits in eight of his nine apperances with the Cougars.

In total, both teams combined for six home runs on a windy night at Pohlman Field.

Duane Underwood picked up the win for the Cougars (5 IP, 2 H, 1 ER). Kyle Finnegan gave up a season-worst six runs (6 IP, 9 H, 6 ER) and dropped to 6-5 on the year.

The Cougars struck first in the initial inning behind a Yasiel Balaguert 2-run home run. Kane County would tack on three more runs in the third inning as Schwarber hit a solo shot home run and Jacob Rogers hit a 2-run home run.

Rogers' home run was his eighth of the season and he is batting .452 in his last ten games.

The Snappers finally got on the board in the fourth inning as Luis Baez hit a solo shot home run, his fourth of the season, to cut the deficit to 5-1.

Kane County blew the game wide open in the seventh inning as Schwarber connected on a grand slam to give the Cougars a 10-1 lead.

Chih-Fang Pan homered for the Snappers in the bottom of the frame, his first home run of the season.

The Snappers and Cougars return to action Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Pohlman Field.
