Defensive errors plague Snappers in 6-3 loss to Dayton

Beloit's comeback bid fell short as the Snappers weren't able to overcome a multitude of defensive errors and fell 6-3 to Dayton Thursday night.

After erasing a four-run deficit to bring the game to 4-3 in the sixth inning, Beloit's suspect defense surfaced once again and gave up two runs in the top of the ninth. The Snappers committed four errors on the night and have now totaled seven errors in the two games against Dayton this series.

Kyle Finnegan picked up the loss in his first start since returning from the DL (4 IP, 2 H, 1 ER) while Sal Romano recorded the win for the Dragons (5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER).

The Dragons jumped out to an early lead in the first inning as Robert Ramirez hit an RBI-double to score Carlton Daal from second base. Daal was walked before stealing second base to advance into scoring position.

Dayton tacked on another run in the third inning as Phillip Ervin's sacrifice fly to left field scored Daal from third base. Daal singled before Ramirez hit a double to send Daal to third base and scoring position.

The Dragons extended their lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning behind a 2-run home run from Phillip Ervin, his fifth of the season. 

Beloit finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth frame as a B.J. Boyd single allowed Luis Baez to score from second base. A throwing error past first base on the single allowed Baez the time to head home and give Beloit its first run of the game.

The Snappers continued their comeback in the sixth inning as they put up two runs in a two-out rally. Phil Pohl started the scoring with a single to left field to score Branden Cogswell, who had doubled two batters prior.

In the next at-bat, Luis Baez hit an RBI-double to the right field gap to score Pohl from first base to cut Dayton's lead to 4-3.

Dayton tacked on two insurance runs in the ninth inning behind two defensive errors from the Beloit defense. The Snappers had a chance to rally once again in the bottom of the ninth, but stranded two runners as B.J. Boyd struck out looking to end the game.

The Snappers and Dragons conclude their three-game series Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at Pohlman Field.
