Snappers can't complete series sweep, fall 7-3 to Hot Rods

July 21, 2014

The Beloit Snappers couldn't complete the series sweep over the Bowling Green Hot Rods Monday afternoon as they fell 7-3.

The Hot Rods were in control for the majority of the game and Beloit's offense never came together, as they went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Bruedlin Suero (2-2, 4.45 ERA) picked up the win for the Hot Rods as he pitched 6.2 innings, giving up six hits and two earned runs.

Dylan Covey (4-9, 4.81 ERA) recorded the loss for Beloit as he gave up eight hits and five earned runs in 6.0 innings pitched.

Bowling Green opened up the scoring in the second inning as Elias Torres hit a 2-run double to score Tyler Young and James Harris. The Hot Rods had a chance to add to their lead in the inning but stranded Alexander Simon on third base as Juniel Querecuto grounded out to end the frame.

In the fifth inning, the Snappers were an out away from ending the inning but allowed five consecutive singles to score three runs. Querecuto started the 2-out rally with a groundball single and four RBI-singles later, the Hot Rods led 5-0.

The Snappers would cut into Bowling Green's lead in the seventh inning behind a Luis Baez 2-run home run but the Hot Rods shut the door on the comeback in the following frame.

Bowling Green's Tyler Young responded with a solo shot home run and Simon hit an RBI-single to give the Hot Rods a 7-2 lead. Tyler Marincov doubled in the bottom of the inning for the Snappers to drive in Justin HIgley and give the game its final 7-3 score.

The Snappers hit the road for a six-game road trip before returning home on July 29 to take on the Peoria Chiefs.
