Snappers Split Series with Cougars

May 21, 2015

BELOIT, WI - The Beloit Snappers finished the series at home against the Kane County Cougars with a 6-5 win.

At first, it looked like Kane County was going to roll away as they scored five runs in the first two innings. Cody Regis scored a run in the first inning and then had a 2 RBI double in the second.

With the score at 5-0 going into the bottom of the second inning, the Snappers got on the board when Sandber Pimentel hit a solo bomb, his fifth of the season, making it 5-1.

The Snappers kept on chipping away, scoring two runs in the third inning because of a Max Kuhn double that ended up scoring Edwin Diaz and James Harris.

With Beloit still down by two runs in the fourth, Jose Brizuela hit a two run homer, his third of the season, to tie the score up at 5-5.

Shortly after, Jose Chavez hit his second double of the year on a line drive to left field. After a wild pitch that allowed Chavez to move to third base, Edwin Diaz hit a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Chavez to score and put the Snappers up 6-5.

Beloit's relief pitchers never allowed the Snappers to look back, making 6-5 the final score. The last five innings were all zeros on the scoreboard.

Daniel Gossett got the win tonight and goes to 2-4 on the season as he pitched five innings, allowed eight hits, five runs, and struck out five Cougars. Jose Torres is credited with the save, his third of the season, pitching 1.1 innings, not allowing a hit, and striking out two Cougars. Brent Jones suffered the loss for Kane County.

The Snappers are 17-24 on the season and welcome the Cedar Rapids Kernels to town for a four game series. The two teams square off at Pohlman Field tomorrow night at 6:30 PM.
