Beloit Splits Doubleheader; Win in Walk Off

June 21, 2015

BELOIT, Wisc. - The Snappers split a doubleheader against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Beloit lost 4-2 in game one and then won game two 3-2 with the help of a walk off hit from Trent Gilbert.

Last night's game being postponed due to rain led to a doubleheader, consisting of two 7 inning games, on Father's Day that started at noon.

The Timber Rattlers got on the board first in game one in the third when Francisco Castillo doubled (2) on a line drive to left field to score Brandon Diaz before Elvis Rubio grounded out to third base to bring in Tucker Neuhaus, putting Wisconsin up to 2-0.

Beloit's Justin Higley answered right back as he hit a solo homer (2) in the bottom of the third to bring the Snappers within one run.

Wisconsin extended their lead by scoring a run in both the fourth and fifth innings. The Timber Rattlers scored their run in the fourth inning when Beloit's starter, Heath Fillmyer, walked in a run. In the fifth, Jose Pena hit a sac fly to center field to bring in Elvis Rubio, making the score 4-1.

The Snappers attempted to make a comeback in the bottom of the 7th but it was nothing doing, as they scored one run that made the final score 4-2 when Justin Higley grounded into a forced out that scored Sandber Pimentel.

Beloit's Heath Fillmyer got the loss and goes to 0-8 on the season. Wisconsin's Angel Ventura earned the win and goes to 3-2 on the season as Luis Ortega was credited with second save of the year.

Game two got started about 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

Again, Wisconsin got on the scoreboard first when Sthervin Matos doubled (7) on a line drive to left field to plate Brandon Diaz in the third inning.

Beloit tied it up in the fourth when Jose Brizuela doubled in Joe Bennie on a line drive to right field. The Snappers then took the lead in the fifth because of a fielding error by Matos at third base that allowed Joe Bennie to score.

In the top of the seventh, Wisconsin tied up the score with a line drive single to center field by Diaz that allowed Alan Sharkey to score, making the score 2-2.

The Timber Rattlers' Joshua Torres walked three batters in a row in the bottom of the seventh to load up the bases. Wisconsin even brought in an extra infielder to help prevent an infield hit but Trent Gilbert had other plans. With no outs recorded, he hit a line drive single to left field to drive in Justin Higley for the game winning run that put an end to an eight game losing streak for the Snappers, making the final score 3-2.

The Snappers go into the All Star break at 26-44 and start the second half of the season on the road in Burlington to play the Bees for four games and then to Quad Cities to play the River Bandits for three games. The Snappers return back to Beloit on Thursday, July 2nd to play the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers again. To buy tickets just call (608) 362-2272, stop by the office, or visit our website.
