July 31, 2015

BELOIT, Wisc. - The Beloit Snappers got swept by the Quad Cities River Bandits as they fell in the final game of the series by a score of 4-3 in 12 innings.

The game started out as a pitchers' duel as the first run of the game wasn't scored until the sixth inning. Snappers' starter, Joey Wagman pitched six innings, five of them being scoreless, allowing seven hits, and striking out five River Bandits.

Quad Cities drew first blood after Ramon Laureano doubled (10) on a line drive to left field and then Bryan Muniz doubled (5) on a pop up to second base, scoring Laureano.

Cody Stull came in to pitch for the Snappers, relieving Wagman. Stull was able to pitch two hitless innings.

Beloit finally found some offense in the eighth and take the lead, putting up a three spot with the help of an RBI double apiece for Joe Bennie (22) and Mikey White (1). White then scored on a Jose Brizuela ground ball single to the shortstop to make the score 3-1.

Jose Torres was brought into close the game in the ninth but was unable to do so, walking the first two batters he faced and allowing two runs to score to tie up the game on a two RBI double by Luis Reynoso. Torres suffered the blown save (5).

Mike Fagan came into the game in the tenth and pitched two hitless innings while striking out four batters. Unfortunately, Beloit's offense wasn't able to put any runs behind him.

Kevin Johnson suffered the loss, going to 2-6 on the year. The usual long reliever came in to pitch the 12th inning but allowed three hits and a run to score as the River Bandits took the lead.

The Snappers were unable to keep the marathon game going as they failed to score a run in the bottom of the 12th, losing their fourth straight game.

Beloit is 40-63 on the year and 14-19 in the second half. They welcome the Peoria Chiefs to town for three games starting tomorrow night.
