Turner Pitches Knights Past Durham, 4-1

Charlotte, NC -- Jacob Turner allowed only a first inning run over six frames to lead Charlotte over Durham 4-1 at BB&T Ballpark on Saturday night.

The defeat for the Bulls (6-4) was the quickest game of the young season, falling in just two hours and 17 minutes. Durham took a 1-0 lead in the first when Nick Franklin singled home Jaff Decker from third with two outs, but the Knights (3-6) would tie by the third and go ahead in the fourth.

A dropped flyball by Richie Shaffer in right field started the Knights' fourth inning, putting Jason Coats at third base. Coats would score on a grounder two hitters later to tie the game 1-1. In the fifth, a bloop single by Jacob May started a two-run inning, followed by a double from Tim Anderson and a grounder from Carlos Sanchez that brought May home for a 2-1 lead. After a nearly botched long rundown by the Bulls nabbed Anderson at the plate, Matt Davidson drilled a single to center to score Sanchez, putting the Bulls behind 3-1.

Coats launched his first home run of the season in the eighth against reliever Kyle McPherson.

Adam Wilk (L, 0-1) pitched six innings, permitting three runs (two earned) in absorbing the loss.

Turner (W, 1-0) earned the win, working six innings, fanning seven and walking one. Tommy Kahnle (S, 1) pitched a perfect ninth to record the Knights' first save of the season.

The Bulls and Knights wrap up their four-game series Sunday afternoon at 2:05 PM ET with Blake Snell (1-0 1.86) starting against Miguel Gonzalez (0-0, 3.60).
