Ashford University Field has not been kind to the Snappers over the past year, but Beloit was finally able to shake its woes at the venue on Friday night with an 8-1 pounding of the LumberKings. The Snappers broke out for 14 hits in the victory, backing a seven-inning, 12-strikeout gem from Matt Milburn. Beloit came into the contest having lost their last 13 games in Clinton dating back to June 10, 2016.
Trace Loehr ambushed LumberKings starter Ljay Newsome with a leadoff homer in the top of the first. Loehr also contributed an RBI single to the Snappers' rally in the third inning and later scored on Eric Mariñez's two-run bomb. Bryson Brigman put Clinton on the board in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double- the only blemish on Milburn's line- but Marinez answered with an RBI single in the top of the seventh, extending the Snappers' lead to 5-1. Beloit tacked on three more in the ninth inning, including a Nate Mondou RBI double.
The Snappers had a plethora of multi-hit games on Friday. Loehr, Mondou, Luis Barrera, and J.C. Rodriguez all had two-hit efforts, while Marinez notched three hits for the second straight game. Miguel Mercedes contributed a sacrifice fly, but went 0-for-4 on the night, snapping his hitting streak at 10 games. He was the only Snapper in the starting lineup that didn't record a hit.
