Cardinals Hold Off Travs in Trip Opener

Springfield, MO-The Arkansas Travelers dropped the opener of a 12-game roadtrip in a 4-3 decision to the Springfield Cardinals on Wednesday night. The two teams are now tied in the standings with a 32-33 record with their place in the standings pending the outcome of the NW Arkansas at Tulsa

Springfield, MO-The Arkansas Travelers dropped the opener of a 12-game roadtrip in a 4-3 decision to the Springfield Cardinals on Wednesday night. The two teams are now tied in the standings with a 32-33 record with their place in the standings pending the outcome of the NW Arkansas at Tulsa game. It was the third consecutive loss for the Travs and fourth in their last five games. The game saw a lack of scoring chances early for both teams with the game tied at 1 going to the bottom of the seventh. The Cards only early run came on a homer by former Texas League start Luke Voit who was playing his first game back in Springfield in two seasons. Arkansas finished the night going just 1-5 with runners in scoring position while Springfield was 1-10.
Moments That Mattered
* Dario Pizzano drove home a run with two out in the first to give the Travs the early lead.
* Edmundo Sosa came through with the bases loaded, driving in two with a two out hit in the seventh to put the Cardinals up but another run scored when the throw back in to third base kicked off the helmet of the sliding runner for an error.
* Beau Amaral lined out to right to end the game after the Travs had put the tying and go-ahead runs on base.
