In another tightly-contested affair, the Birmingham Barons (47-48) couldn't get the clutch hit they needed late as they fell 2-1 in 10 innings to the Jackson Generals (52-44) on Thursday night in front of 6,950 at Regions Field. The loss evens up the five-game series at one game apiece.

  • Turning Point: Down 2-1 in the bottom of the 10th, the Barons had a prime opportunity for their second straight walk-off win, but couldn't make it count this time. With the bases loaded and one out, Luis Basabe struck out and Zack Collins grounded out to first, ending the game with the tying and winning runs on base.
  • Moments That Mattered: The Barons had a great chance to take the lead in the sixth inning, as Trey Michalczewski began the frame by hitting his team-leading fifth triple into the right field corner. However, the Barons bats were quickly quieted as Danny Mendick, Matt Rose, and Keon Barnum all struck out to strand Michalczewski at third and keep the game tied 1-1.
  • By The Numbers: After scoring nine runs in Wednesday's series opener, the Birmingham offense was held to just one run on seven hits on Thursday. Michalczewski, Alex Call, and Ryan Brett each recorded a pair of hits, with Michalczewski's first hit driving in Brett for Birmingham's only run in the second inning.
  • Facts And Figures: On the mound, Barons starter Jimmy Lambert pitched 2.0 scoreless innings before exiting with the trainer at the beginning of the third inning. In relief, Brandon Brennan was sharp, tossing 3.0 clean innings to preserve a 1-0 lead. However, Jake Johansen gave up a run in the sixth to tie the game late. Brian Clark kept it tied with 2.1 scoreless innings of his own. Matt Foster (L, 0-2) pitched a clean ninth, but gave up the run in the 10th that proved to be decisive as the Barons gave up just five hits in the loss.
  • Up Next: The Barons and Generals continue the series on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Dylan Cease (1-0, 3.24) is ste to start for Birmingham against Jackson's Joel Payamps (8-3, 3.03). Curt Bloom will have the call on 960 WERC News Radio and the iHeart Radio app.
